Easter Glow in the Dark Party
Easter Glow in the Dark Party

We’re back… and this one’s going to glow!

After such a brilliant time last year, we’re heading back to Golden Valley Caravan Park for another Easter Glow in the Dark Party – and honestly, we can’t wait!

📅 Saturday 11th April
5:00pm – 7:00pm

This time, we’re turning up the energy with a full-on UV glow party, packed with music, games, dancing and loads of high-energy fun for the kids (and let’s be honest… the grown-ups always end up joining in too).

I’ll be there as Disco Jayne, alongside DJ Dazzle, and between us we’ll be keeping the dancefloor busy from start to finish. Expect glow sticks, UV effects, party games and a proper feel-good atmosphere from the minute it kicks off.

It’s a great way to keep the Easter celebrations going – something a bit different that the kids will be talking about long after it’s finished.

  • Open to the public
For tickets and full details, please contact Golden Valley Caravan Park directly.

If you came last time, you already know what kind of night this is. And if you didn’t… now’s your chance !

See you on the dancefloor! 💃🕺Aa poster advertising and Easter Glow in the Dark party for Golden Valley Caravan Park

Monday Madness at Absolutely Amazing Parties – Wigs, Crowns, and Busy Weekends Ahead!

Monday Madness at Absolutely Amazing Parties – Wigs, Crowns, and Busy Weekends Ahead!

My goodness, Mondays are always our busiest day! Between handling enquiries, checking in on the weekend’s parties, and prepping for the weekend ahead, it’s a whirlwind from the moment we start.

Today we’ve got a mountain of wigs to get through – mainly for Rumi, who’s our most popular character at the moment. But we’re still upgrading our other classic princesses too. Excitingly, our Sleepy Princess has just received her brand-new crown and necklace set all the way from America – perfect for making little birthdays extra special!

We’re also gearing up for a very busy Saturday. With no parties booked for Mother’s Day, I’m taking a little family time and heading to Lincoln for a meal at Ask, followed by a wander around the city. My daughter Isobel is getting the train over from Sheffield, where she’s currently studying – looking forward to catching up with her.

Friday’s looking full-on too. I’ve got a couple of bookings including entertaining at The Oaklands in Worksop with my vintage show, then heading over to Vinegar House. And Zoey, our K-Pop Demon Hunters character, will be at Pirates Play Centre in Sherwood – this is a ticket-only event, so if you fancy it, make sure to head over to their website to grab tickets.

Saturday is going to be packed! We’ve got a mix of parties with Moana, Ariel, Spider-Man, and Rumi out entertaining, plus Darren and I will be running two UV Glow parties. It’s going to be a busy, fun-filled weekend, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Mondays might be hectic, but it’s all part of what makes Absolutely Amazing Parties such a joy – helping families have brilliant birthdays and seeing all those little faces light up.

Barbie Meets Rosie the Tuk Tuk at Belvoir Castle
Barbie Meets Rosie the Tuk Tuk at Belvoir Castle

Barbie Meets Rosie the Tuk Tuk at Belvoir Castle

This summer our Barbie had a very special photo shoot at the beautiful Belvoir Castle – and she wasn’t on her own. She was joined by Rosie the Little Pink Tuk Tuk, part of the incredible Rosie May Foundation.

Rosie is bright pink, three-wheeled and guaranteed to turn heads wherever she goes. She’s available for hire across the UK for weddings, birthday parties, school events, business promotions and more. She can even be set up as a quirky photo booth to capture those special moments. At Belvoir Castle she proved to be the perfect partner for our Barbie – the photos say it all!

Who are the Rosie May Foundation?

The Rosie May Foundation was set up in memory of Rosie May Storrs, who tragically lost her life at the age of 10 in 2003. Her family created the charity to continue her legacy and change the lives of children both here in the UK and overseas.

The Foundation works on a variety of projects including:

  • Rosie the Tuk Tuk fleet – providing safe transport for women and girls in Sri Lanka and Nepal while tackling gender inequality.
  • Community projects in the UK – such as Rosie the Little Pink Tuk Tuk, which helps raise awareness and funds through appearances at events.
  • Sustainable support – empowering families with skills, education and resources to break the cycle of poverty.

You can read more about their work here: Rosie May Foundation.

Why Rosie Stands Out

Rosie isn’t just fun to look at – she carries a powerful message about making the world a safer and fairer place for women and children. Every time Rosie is hired for a party, wedding or event, she helps raise awareness and supports the Foundation’s work at home and abroad.

We were proud to have our Barbie join Rosie at Belvoir Castle, combining a little fun with a meaningful cause.

How You Can Get Involved

If you’d like to support the Rosie May Foundation, you can:

  • Book Rosie the Tuk Tuk for your event
  • Donate directly through their website
  • Volunteer your time to help their local and international projects

As a small family-run business based in Nottingham, we love collaborating with organisations that make a positive difference. Working with Rosie and the Rosie May Foundation is a wonderful way to bring something unique to your event while also supporting an important cause.

Year 2 School Leavers Disco in Leicester | Fun End of Term Party Entertainment
Year 2 School Leavers Disco in Leicester | Fun End of Term Party Entertainment

Year 2 School Leavers Party – A Brilliant Send-Off to the Term!

On Friday evening, we had the absolute pleasure of entertaining a fantastic bunch of Year 2 children at their very first leavers disco, organised by the school’s brilliant PTFA team. The event marked the end of term and a big milestone for the little ones as they get ready to move up to junior school in September.

Held at Jubilee Hall in Barwell , Leicestershire  the party was filled with excitement and energy from the moment we arrived. Although the PTFA had never organised a leavers party before, you’d never have guessed – everything was well thought-out and brilliantly planned, from the food to the glow accessories.

Our role for the evening? Bringing the music, fun and games! The children danced their socks off, joined in with party classics and silly games, and had a brilliant time from start to finish. There were lots of big smiles, a fair bit of enthusiastic singing, and a fantastic atmosphere all round.

It was such a lovely way to help them round off their time in Key Stage 1 and celebrate everything they’ve achieved this year. These types of events are some of our favourites to do – they’re fun, lively and give the children a chance to let off steam after a busy school year.

A big thank you to the PTFA for having us – and a huge well done to all the Year 2 children heading into the next chapter of their school journey. You’ve done yourselves proud!

If you’re a school or PTFA looking to plan a leavers disco, end of term celebration or school party and would like a friendly, experienced team to take care of the entertainment, we’d love to help.

PASIC Easter Party at the Crowne Plaza, Nottingham

We had such a brilliant time at this year’s PASIC Easter Party, held at the Crowne Plaza in Nottingham – what a fantastic afternoon!

PASIC is a wonderful East Midlands charity that supports families of children and young people with cancer. They do amazing work all year round, and it’s always a pleasure to be involved in their events. The atmosphere was lovely, and it was clear how much effort had gone into making it a special day for the families.

We were there providing lots of fun, including a disco, party games, and entertainment – and of course, some of our most popular party characters came along too! We had Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, Glinda, and Ariel.

It was a proper family affair as well – my daughter Isobel joined us as Alice, and her boyfriend took on the role of the Mad Hatter (they were both fab!). It was lovely to see the kids so engaged with the characters, joining in the games, and dancing away.

We also had the pleasure of working alongside the lovely Dale from the Heroes Bringing Hope Foundation, as well as the brilliant team from the East Midlands Garrison, who always add something special to events like this.

We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone again at Christmas!

If you’re planning a party or special event and want to bring it to life with professional entertainment and character appearances, we’d love to help.

Do Children’s Entertainers need a DBS / CRB Check?

A DBS Check is Not Legally Required for Children’s Party Entertainers

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is not legally required for entertainers at children’s parties because this role does not fall under the definition of “regulated activity” as outlined in UK safeguarding legislation.

Why DBS is Not Required
Definition of Regulated Activity: The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 defines regulated activity with children as work that involves:

  • Unsupervised teaching, training, or instructing.
  • Caregiving or supervising children regularly.
  • Driving children as part of a formal arrangement.

Entertaining at children’s parties is not included because it does not involve unsupervised or regular care. Entertainers at parties are always in the presence of parents or guardians, meaning it is not considered regulated activity.

Legal Restrictions on DBS Requests: Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and Police Act 1997, employers can only request DBS checks for roles that meet regulated activity criteria. Asking for a DBS check for an unregulated role is unlawful, breaching both data protection laws and individual rights.

Misinformation and Stigma: Insisting on DBS checks for children’s entertainers perpetuates the false belief that they pose a safeguarding risk, creating unnecessary suspicion and fear. This unfairly stigmatises entertainers and discourages skilled individuals from bringing joy to children’s events.

Relevant Legislation

  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006: Sets out the definition of regulated activity with children. Entertaining is not included unless unsupervised or involving regular caregiving.
  • Police Act 1997: Limits DBS checks to roles that directly involve regulated activity.
  • Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975: Protects spent convictions from disclosure unless a role qualifies for exemption, which children’s party entertainers do not.

In Summary
Children’s party entertainers do not require a DBS check because their role does not involve regulated activity as defined by UK law. Claims that DBS checks are mandatory for such roles spread unnecessary fear and stigma. It is also unlawful for organisations to request DBS checks for unregulated activities, as outlined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 and the Police Act 1997.

If asked for a DBS check for an unregulated role, it’s important to remind clients or venues that their request may be in breach of the law and to ensure safeguarding policies align with actual legal requirements.

UV Glow Disco – Get Ready for a Glow-tastic Time!

Glow in the dark neon discoParent Information for our Glow in the Dark Neon Party!

Thank you for joining us to celebrate

Here’s what you need to know for a glowing, fun-filled time:

Dress Code:

Please dress your child in neon or white clothing to make the most of the UV lights.

Glow-in-the-dark face paints will be used, so avoid delicate clothing. Let us know if your child would prefer to skip face paint.

The games are quite active, so we recommend cycle shorts or leggings under party dresses.

Glow Stick Safety:

Each child will receive a glow stick or bracelet. These are low-toxicity, but if broken or chewed, they may cause mild irritation. Please remind children not to chew them.

Allergies:

We may give out sweets during the party, usually Fizzers or Love Hearts, which are vegan-friendly.

Please notify the host of any allergies or special requirements in advance.

Party Setup:

The room will be darkened for the best neon effect, so expect a glowing atmosphere!

Please note that music may be loud and flashing disco lights will be used, which could affect children with sensory sensitivities.

Why Children’s Entertainers Don’t Need a DBS Check

Why Children’s Entertainers Don’t Need a DBS Check

When considering hiring a children’s entertainer, you might wonder if a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is necessary. While it’s understandable to seek peace of mind, it’s important to know that most children’s entertainers are not legally required to have a DBS check.

What Is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal history an individual might have. These checks are typically required for roles that involve regular, unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable adults. However, this doesn’t apply to most children’s entertainers.

Why Isn’t a DBS Check Required?

Children’s entertainers usually work at one-off events, such as parties, where they are never left alone with children. The law only mandates a DBS check for roles that involve frequent and unsupervised interaction with children. Since entertainers do not fall under this category, a DBS check is not necessary.

It’s Unlawful to Request a DBS Check Unnecessarily

It’s important to note that it is unlawful to request a DBS check for a role that doesn’t require one. Asking for a DBS check when the role does not meet the legal criteria can be a breach of the law. This ensures that background checks are only used where absolutely necessary and that individuals’ rights are protected.

Best Practices for Booking Entertainers

While a DBS check isn’t needed, you can still take steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable event:

  • Always have a responsible adult present: Ensure that there’s at least one other adult present during the event so the entertainer is never left in sole charge of the children.
  • Choose a reputable entertainer: Look for entertainers with strong reviews and a proven track record. Experience and professionalism are key indicators of a trustworthy performer.
  • Communicate clearly: Discuss your expectations and any concerns with the entertainer beforehand to ensure everything runs smoothly.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your event is safe and enjoyable without the need for a DBS check.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly.
